Where the reach actually lives.

Two-figure card: 4.7% engagement on personal LinkedIn profiles against 1 to 2% on company pages.
In short

Independent Sprout Social data for Q1 2026 puts median LinkedIn engagement at about 4.7% for personal profiles against 1 to 2% for company pages. Native formats travel furthest, a link in the post costs it about a fifth of its reach, and the first 60 to 90 minutes largely decide distribution. For a leadership programme, the company page is a record; the reach lives on leaders’ own profiles.

The engagement gap

Most companies still post their leadership content where LinkedIn has stopped sending people. The independent numbers for 2026: personal profiles run at about 4.7% engagement, while company pages sit at 1 to 2%. The same post, three to four times the engagement, decided by nothing more than whose name is on it. We covered the structural side of this decline in LinkedIn company pages are declining; the gap has not closed since.

Format, and the link tax

Format matters too. Posts made natively on LinkedIn, a document, a short video, a carousel, travel furthest. Put an external link in the post body and it loses roughly a fifth of its reach, because LinkedIn would rather keep people on the platform than send them off it. The practical habit: the post carries the idea, the link goes in the first comment.

Distribution is also decided fast. The first 60 to 90 minutes set how far a post goes, which makes early, genuine engagement part of the publishing plan rather than a nice-to-have.

What it means for a leadership programme

For a leadership programme the conclusion is uncomfortable but useful: the company page is a record, not a channel. It should hold the institutional archive and look credible when someone comes checking. The reach lives on your leaders’ own profiles, in posts made directly, published when their audience is actually online.

How we think about it

We treat an executive post as a coordinated launch rather than a publish-and-forget event: the right format for the idea, no link in the body, timed for the audience, with colleagues ready to engage early because they genuinely have something to say. Most teams still treat that as an afterthought, which is exactly why it works.
